Young Wine Makers of Livermore Valley
As one of California’s oldest wine regions, the Livermore Valley is deeply rooted in history. Tradition and innovation intersect in the viticulture methods of valley’s youngest winemakers. Fifth-generation Winemaker Karl Wente, 33, whose winery Wente Vineyards produces roughly 400,000 cases per year, joins a slew of promising young winemakers who make California’s Livermore Valley wine country, something special to visit. Located only one hour from three major San Francisco Bay Area airports (OAK, SFO, SJC), the wine region is relatively undiscovered as a travel destination— but likely, not for long. Among the winemakers who make up the more than 50 wineries in the region, are four talented, ruggedly good-looking, young winemakers. These guys can often be found pouring their wines for tasting room visitors – a lost tradition in commercialized wine regions. These four winemakers share not only a passion for wine, but for music, food, the outdoors and their families, who in three out of four cases, have worked alongside them in the business.
